Look out brunching enthusiasts, there’s a new kid on the block; Raw Pawpaw. Actually, no. Look out anyone who just loves eating good, honest and feel good food, for you NEED to add this Brisbane cafe to your go-to list IMMEDIATELY.
Just down from Merthyr Village, sits a sweet little white nook (previously Café Bouquiniste) that in the creative hands of Venzin Group has been turned into a wholefood cafe that brings people fresh, raw, and vegan goodies. From the makers of other successful health food restaurants Green Papaya, Little Pawpaw, and Pawpaw, Raw Pawpaw maintains the same balance of delicious food that is filled with nutrition amongst a carefully planned menu using local and seasonal produce. Seating is in the form of shared benches (complete with adorbs Pawpaw artwork!) and a brekky style bar inside overlooking the street.
Think of Raw Pawpaw as the little sister of the very cool Pawpaw, but one who’s more content sitting outside munching through a wholesome bowl of activated goodness.
On Sunday, myself and my best foodie friend braced the scorching Brisbane heat and went for brunch. Somehow ( I never win anything!) I won a Brisbane Food Theory/ Venzin Group Instagram competition for Raw Pawpaw worth $100. Free brunching? Yes please! There’s no set breakfast or lunch menu, but a super number of options to choose from at any time of the day. In the early hours you might be inclined for the acai bowl or a cold pressed coffee or perhaps the lifestyle board that we had – rich with eggs, avocado sprinkled with dukkah, vine roasted tomatoes, beetroot relish, goats cheese and lemon. We added crumbed eggplant to the board as well, amazing! I opted for the Eggs Benedict which featured rye bread topped with spinach, smoked salmon, two poached eggs and a delightfully bright beetroot hollandaise.
Super delicious and filling too. Washed down with a Coco-Nana smoothie (probably one of the best smoothies I have had!) this drink was the perfect mix of coconut yoghurt, banana, almond milk and cacao. Various other colourful smoothies are also on the menu for a quick pick-me -up or take-away option.
Come lunch time, you’ll probably opt for one of the salads that feature nutrient-dense combinations like spinach, kale, sweet potato. and macadamia nuts. Zucchini pasta is even on the menu with an activated pepita pesto. To get a little protein in there, just add chicken, eggs, or salmon. Or why not try the Vegie Burger piled high with fried eggplant, roasted pepper hummus, rocket and other vegie delights. Bagels, sandwiches and heaps of other tantalising sweet treats in the form of cakes and slices adorn the cabinet as well. Inside the walls are filled with lovely take-home products, some of which are used in the menu.
All in all, I was so impressed with Raw Pawpaw. I’ve been wanting to get there for so long and it was certainly worth the wait. Wholesome food that makes you happy and is good for you?! It doesn’t get much better than that! I can see why this little gem is fast becoming a brunch fave around Bris.
Yep. Raw Pawpaw, you are a haven of health that does not compromise one bit on fun or flavour. I can’t wait to come back and use the rest of my voucher for more guilt-free goodies and sweet treats very very soon.
