What’s all the hoo ha about you say? Well South Brisbane has a hidden gem and you need to know about it. Don’t let the name fool you. Hoo Ha Bar is both a cafe by day and the perfect night time hang out for a cheeky cocktail, wine or craft beer. Having stripped back the interior of this corner space on Tribune Street, the fellas behind Hoo Ha uncovered a rustic brick wall and some high ceiling beams and have turned what looks like a very small space into something totally rad. Melding old and new furniture with a bit of greenery, potted plants and vases of flowers, Hoo Ha has a seriously cool vibe. You’ll see leather couches, vintage carpet and some pretty worn wooden tables dotted around the space that is both airy and filled with lots of natural light. Perf Instagramming conditions, just sayin’. The bar also looks the part with an industrial piping wall adorned with quirky beverages and prints. I really couldn’t help swoon at this interior decor, so cool.
Serving outstanding Supreme Roasters coffee (and I’m not exaggerating it was super delicious!) our flat white and cappucino went down a treat. We also decided to try some housemade juics that were an awesome mix of fresh fruits blended to perfection. I went for berry number while my brunching partner went for a citrusy concoction. We couldn’t help but try each others. These juices were amazing! As for the eats, Hoo Har offers intriguing dishes perfect for laid back lunching and brunching. Having just launched a brand spanking new menu, foodies are spiolt for choice. As always we had a hard time choosing what to have but after hearing about haloumi gems, our mind was somewhat already made up. Yes, HALOUMI GEMS. Golden bites of deliciousness. On the recently revamped menu you’ll find the likes of pineapple bircher with mixed berry compote, ginger infused yoghurt & seasonal fruit or panko-crumbed avocado, crème fraiche, poached field mushrooms, tendrils & toasts. Are you salivating yet?
Burgers haven’t been forgotten either with grilled chorizo,a fried free-range egg, Monterey Jack cheese, greens & sriracha mayo on warmed ciabatta or the veg option complete with spiced eggplant, crispy haloumi, roasted pumpkin, greens & miso mayo on warmed ciabatta. In a ravenous breakfasting mood we went for something a little different the Herbivore – a plate chock a block full of field mushrooms, poached free-range eggs, house-made hummus, haloumi nuggets, greens, blistered cherry tomatoes, pesto & warmed ciabatta. Oh.my.god. Now I’m not a vego by any means but my god, this needed no meat. Everything was freaking delicious and I really couldn’t fault it apart from the eggs that lacked the oozy yolk. Feel like you need some pork on your fork? No probs! There’s also a carnivore option with grilled chorizo, poached free range eggs, crisp pancetta, haloumi gems, blistered cherry tomatoes, tomato salsa, greens & warmed ciabatta. My mouth is watering again just thinking about it. Cooked and presented beautifully, this is one big breakfast that you just don’t want to stop eating!
I don’t know what more I can say about this place. Hoo Har Bar is just seriously so so soooooooooo good and the new menu is outstanding. Foodies are going to start flocking here in no time, so why not beat them to it like we did?! I can’t wait to visit again soon and try more of the menu…oh and maybe a cocktail or two!
