Fancy Nance, Adriano Zumbo set to open Melbourne high tea salon!

Foodies, chocoholics and those with an avid sweet tooth rejoice. Adriano Zumbo is opening a high-tea salon this month in Melbourne! Yes, that’s right. Another Zumbo venture to sink your teeth into. The 400-square-metre South Yarra space once inhabited by George Calombaris’s Mama Baba and Manu Feildel’s Le Grand Cirque restaurant will see the macron maestro take high tea to a whole new level. I’m way too excited.

It’s going to be called Fancy Nance, oh so adorably after Zumbo’s mum, Nancy. Awwwwwww. Featuring a typically exuberant Zumbo take on the traditional high tea, you won’t find any tiered cake stands here but instead formulaic cake/scone/sandwich offerings for a dégustation-like experience with morsels arriving at the table one at a time.Kinda like sweet tapas? I think yes!  Zumbo’s menu is still in development, but he says the sweet and savoury flavours will be “a bit of fun” and will change constantly. “It won’t be Willy Wonka or Marie Antoinette,” he says. “We want it to be a fun, relaxed place for people to come and enjoy each other’s company with sweet and savoury treats.”

Set next to Zumbo’s successful Claremont Street pâtisserie, Fancy Nance will also include a cocktail bar and bakery café using soft booth seating, low dividing walls and trademark flashes of hot pink and brass to break up the space. The colour and design flair, Zumbo says, are a part of the homage to his mother. Zumbo can you get any sweeter?!

Adding a visit here to my foodie bucket list pronto. I can only imagine what otherworldly delights await when the doors open! Can’t wait to get there.

Stay hungry,
