I’ve heard a lot of great things about Hatch & Co through the Instagram grapevine so when I found out there was a new restaurant opening in Brisbane CBD I had to try it out… for a spot brunch of course. Being well established in the Brisbane food scene, H&C offers a relaxed bar and dining experience at three great locations, Gasworks Plaza Newstead, Westfield Garden City and just recently in Post Office Square. Boasting a welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, Hatch & Co. I found is all about enjoying fresh and honest food with friends in a relaxed environment. Sounds good already doesn’t it? But it gets better!
The restaurant’s signature décor combines contemporary blonde wood furniture, an open kitchen and walls of greenery to connect the restaurant’s indoor and outdoor dining spaces. On a chilly Monday morning, we were lucky enough to nab a seat inside with pretty great views of the city hustle and bustle below us along with a great Insta-worthy backdrop of the feature wall. My home decor loving heart was swooning at the structure dotted with plants and jars of preserved fruits and vegetables. This is the sort of place where you feel like you could be fine dining but with a casual edge of a really relaxed modern eatery, perfect!
Food at H&C draws inspiration from the principles of traditional slow cooking to create rustic, home-style dishes crafted from the best of local and sustainable produce. The range of meals includes hearty mains, pizzas and generous share plates that will satisfy all sorts of adventurous eaters! The beer, wine and cocktails lists have also all been designed to complement and enhance the food offering. Upon my recent visit to H&C at Post Office Square, I totally went off my usual brunch order and chose the house cured salmon with crushed peas, poached eggs and charred rye toast. All sort of deliciousness! The crushed peas (don’t mind the pun!) were mint! A great and wonderfully different addition to my breakfast plate. Yep, no avo in sight! My brunching partner went for the house made granola topped with yoghurt, figs, honey and walnuts which was a generous serving considering the price and seasonal fruits. Both dishes were presented really beautifully and the coffee we had was also on point. Warm and comforting, this is simple heart felt food executed really well.
Open seven days a week from 11:30am-late Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner and from 8am-late Saturday and Sunday, H&C is a neat little spot you must try if you are around the city looking for something just a little bit different! I definitely want to go back for the beetroot hummus and flat bread (the colours look amazing!) and while I’m at it, I think I’ll grab a Pimm’s …or two!
