Hi there! My name is Sarah and I am 20-something foodie that calls Brisbane home. I love coconut ice-cream, long walks to the fridge…okay, sorry. I’ll be serious. For those that know me, I am a bit of a nerd, clean freak, crafter, avid baker, café explorer, stationery enthusiast, cook-book collector, font appreciator and avocado lover that loves nothing more than to eat and talk endlessly about food, food, food and did I mention food?
My love affair with food started from a very young age, from playing ‘shops’ with plastic fruit and vegetables to making what I thought were edible concoctions with face washers and bubble bath in the tub. For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to food. Food simply brings joy to my life and without it I would be lost.
I even wanted to be a professional chef at one point. I took every food oriented subject in school, tried to tie in all my assignments with food, took a food orientated uni degree and ended up making life-long friends with two amazing teachers who are also foodies. I am ever so grateful to also be surrounded by parents who have taken me to amazing places since I was young, let me wreck havoc in the kitchen and always made me ‘try it first’ before letting me refuse to like something. Thanks Mum and Dad!
As you would have probably guessed, one of my favourite pastimes involves seeking out new cafés and restaurants here in Brisbane and all around the place. I would do that everyday if I could. Write a list and cross it off, been there, eaten that. I wish. While I love to eat my way through menus I am also a lover of spaces with quirky fit-outs complete with decor that really makes the establishment full of character. Oh, a little fun fact..I would LOVE to have my own café one day and while we’re at it I would also like an IKEA kitchen.
I have been lucky enough to be able to travel around having food adventures dining at Peter Gilmore’s world famous Quay Restaurant, Jamie’s Italian and Adriano Zumbo’s patisserie at The Star. That’s just to name a few. The way I see it, food has an amazing way of bringing people together and that is only one of the many reasons why I fell in love with it in the first place.
When I am not cooking, baking. exploring new cafes or doing anything food related I am most likely catching up on reality cooking shows (wait, does that count as food related?) studying or working in industry. In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management, majoring in Hospitality and Events from my very own Hogwarts, the University of Queensland. Love ya UQ! In 2015, I completed my Honours degree in the same field focusing on something pretty unique, Diner en Blanc-only the world’s coolest all-in-white chic picnic. I then graduated again with First Class Honours (eeeep!). I have also written for the Brisbane food blog/website, The Gourmand & Gourmet who do a fabulous job of keeping us foodies of Brisbane full with neat eats. Little do they know that they were one of my main inspirations to start this project, thanks G&G!
So that’s a bit about me in a nutshell, I am sure you will learn more as this blog progresses. Who knows where my next adventure will take me but I know it sure will be scrumptious!
Thanks for reading and stay hungry,
