Neat Eats | Spaghetti House Trattoria

Spaghetti House

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amoreeeeee! If you could please hum this tune for the remainder of your time reading this post that would be great. Trust me, you’ll be feeling the love.

Is there anything better or more comforting than Italian food?! If you answered yes (seriously, do we know each other and is that your final answer?!), don’t stop reading. If you answered no, don’t stop reading either. If you are looking for a little slice of Italy in Brisvegas, I have just the place for you. One that I hope will change your mind about any mediocre Italian you have had. It’s a big call but this gem of a eatery is quite possibly my new fave restaurant in South Brisbane.

From the outset, you know you are walking into something seriously delicious at The Spaghetti House Trattoria. The name itself just oozes cool. Nestled tightly on the corner of Grey St in South Brisbane, SHT epitomises absolutely everything I love about Italian hospitality. Honest, friendly service and amazing food executed brilliantly using fresh seasonal ingredients. Seating is abundant both inside and out with a large share table inside perfect for groups or parties. On my recent visit, it just so happened we scored (what I think!) was probably one of the best tables, right in front of the impressive illuminated CIAO sign. What a centre piece! Not going to lie, this had my home decor loving heart swooning from the moment I saw it. Too cool.

So let’s just divert to the decor for a moment.

Candles and aromatic clay potted fresh herbs adorn every table (be still my beating foodie heart!) while Italian cookbooks and odes to Europe are dotted around the restaurant including an open wine display and bar. Stunning! Wooden furniture, candles and mirrors scribbled elegantly with daily specials also make the restaurant spacious yet intimate while the laid back vibe makes you feel like you have stepped into any loving Nonna’s house ready for a feast.

As the name implies, SHT is all about the good stuff! With a menu broken down into cichetti, pasta, pizza, risotto, carnee, contorni and dolce (yep, a carb coma is quite inevitable!) it’s even harder to choose what to have. How good does fichi e prosciutto con Gorgonzola fondu, or figs wrapped in prosciutto with gorgonzola fondue sound?! You feel me? After much deliberation, I chose the gnocchi with burnt butter and sage which was prepared, served and cooked to utter perfection. Gorgeous soft pillows of gnocchi with a luscious sauce and fresh notes of sage make for a winning flavour combination. Topped with loads of parmesan and cracked black pepper of course. We also went for a traditional caprese salad which was beautifully presented with an amazing aged balsamic reduction. Coupled with super sweet vine-ripened tomatoes and mozzarella, it doesn’t get much better. My dining partner went for the ricotta and spinach ravioli which was as equally amazing and the serving sizes ( we both got entree!) were perfect and extremely filling. There isn’t much more to say than that each mouthful was a joy and pleasure to eat. I came in with high hopes  and left with exceeded expectations. Spaghetti House- where have you been all my life?!

If like me you consider Italian a food group in itself, you can find The Spaghetti House Trattoria dishing up lunch, dinner and Venetian-style tapas 7 days a week from 11.30am until late. Honestly, I would recommend this charming restaurant in a heartbeat and cannot wait to go back for more very soon.

Ciao for now!

Stay hungry,

S.
